Herbs gathered together on display

Intuitive Herbalism

Intuitive Herbalism centres the relationship between a person and plant. This is a deeply somatic approach as we allow the wisdom of the body and the wisdom of the plant to meet. As humans we are excellent at turning away from our subconscious patterns, the plants shine a light on these unseen and unfelt parts of ourselves. They offer a doorway and reflection into ourselves - a mirror to ourselves and in this mirroring they also offer a doorway into who they are and their unique medicine.

Meeting everyday plants, be these wild weeds or cultivated herbs can be as profound as psychedelic experiences, with the advantage of it being a more gentle process. It requires a willingness and commitment to drop into the body, to be with emotions and sensations to receive what the plant is showing you. Unlike psychedelic experiences, journeying with common plants don’t hit you over the head with immediate revelations. Instead you need to learn how to hear them and how to navigate your internal landscape and your intuition we do this through the gateway of the body.

1:1 Self Inquiry Sessions

These sessions are for self inquiry - they are guided by your experience and relationship with the plant. This is a somatic, body based practise - a place to journey into the self. It is process work guided by the plants and guided by the body’s wisdom.

I’ve found working with the physical plant can be one of the most direct experiences as we engage with their whole being. I also work with tea, tinctures and many other forms.

A lot of people are curious about this way of working with plants as it goes beyond a medical model and instead seeks plants as companions and guides in our lives. This type of practise can work very well alongside a medical model, be that medical herbalism or other. However these sessions to do aim to treat any condition, they are journeying sessions aimed at you becoming more cognizant and aware of your inner landscape. These sessions are here to guide you to know more of yourself and to facilitate a relationship you can develop with the plant realm.

People come to these sessions for many reasons, be that curiosity in this work, seeking a deeper connection to their intuition and body or having had a strong plant experience and wanting to deepen the practise.

Ultimately this is a space to engage with your inner landscape, your subconscious patterns to bring them to the surface through your experience with the plant. To out create patterns and become more of who you really are.

These sessions are for:

  • Creating a space for deep self inquiry guided by the plants - a space for you to hear more of you

  • Developing your intuition

  • Deepening your relationship with the plant realm through specific plant relationships

  • A deeper awareness of how your body communicates to you

  • Learning to navigate physical sensations which go beyond stories

What to expect in a session

These sessions are always guided by the plants. A medical history is asked before we start to ensure safe practice and an intake form with what you would like to focus on. A typical session may look like:

  • Working with Rose. Rose has an amazing capacity to bring us into our hearts. Rose often provides the doorway into the deeper work and the deeper themes which we sometimes don’t know how to name.

  • Tea tastings or physical plant meetings - using our senses to explore how you receive these plants, where is this going in your body?

  • Guided movement, breath work and visualisation

Mentoring

Mentoring sessions focus on teaching you the principles of Intuitive Herbalism rather than deep self inquiry. These sessions guide you in how to create relationships with plants, moving through methodology and practises which develop your personal practise. Self inquiry is still an important part of these sessions as you need a level of self awareness to engage with the plant realm. However the emphasis here is on teaching you skills and tools for you to continue to develop your herbal practise rather than personal process.

These sessions are suitable for beginners, those who are curious about this work but haven’t explored it or to those familiar with the teachings within Intuitive Herbalism, shamanism or animism.

The essence of this work is learning to listen, to the plants, the land, the elements and yourself.

Mentoring sessions can be stand alone sessions or in collaboration with The School of Intuitive Herbalism following their online introduction to Intuitive Herbalism. In this context the mentoring sessions are here to support your learning within the framework of the course.

  • ''Working with Charlotte over the past 18 months has been a subtly but profoundly transformative experience. Each plant meeting took a different form, often starting simply with the presence of the plant in the room, before progressing to touch, smell and taste. Charlotte always gently guided and encouraged me to be present with the somatic experience, bringing me into contact with the wisdom and memory of my own body. This included offering touch as part of the sessions, which helped me to integrate these subtle experiences without the need for words. Over time, I began to learn that by allowing and welcoming my feelings, including my resistance and discomfort, I could move towards greater intimacy with myself, aided by the plants. Where previously I had feared the reactions or feelings in my body, I started to develop a curiosity and a greater capacity to be present with these feelings, which allowed them to shift and sometimes release. I also learned that it was okay to ask for what I needed, and to gratefully receive this through Charlotte's conscious presence and touch. I will no doubt work with Charlotte again in the future and wholeheartedly recommend her as a facilitator for anyone interested in this work. ''
